Influence of the methods of seeding and spatial distribution of the components on the productivity of alfalfa-cereal agrophytocenosis in the right-bank Forest-Steppe

Abstract

A field trial conducted by the Department of Field Forage Crops of Grasslands and Pastures studied the effect of the spatial distribution of alfalfa plants under different methods of sowing with smooth brome, fescue, timothy grass, wheat-grass, cock's-foot grass, fairway crested grass and high rye-grass on the output of dry matter, feed units, metabolizable energy and provided feed unit of the digestible protein. It was found that compared with the traditional method of sowing alfalfa mixed with cereal components of different types the highest dry matter yield and availability of fodder units of digestible protein in the average for the three years was obtained by the use of grass stands under cross and cross-after-row methods of sowing. Among the studied alfalfa-cereal mixtures the greatest productivity was provided by alfalfa mixed with smooth brome and fescue under cross and cross-after-row sowing, and the lowest one - with cock's-foot grass and wheat-grass. The highest share of feed unit of digestible protein was observed in mixtures of alfalfa with smooth brome and timothy grass.
