Sources of soybean resistance to harmful organisms in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine

Abstract

The results of testing for resistance of 231 soybean variety samples originating from 24 countries on the artificial infection background of Fusarium and provocative background of bacterial infection and lima-bean pod borer during 2011—2015 are presented. Five-year trials have identified 31 sources of soybean resistance, including 28 variety samples with individual resistance and three variety samples with complex resistance to Fusarium root rot and lima-bean pod borer. To improve the efficiency of assessment and to distinguish sources of resistance to Fusarium root rot on the artificial infection background, according to multi-year data there have been identified 11 variety samples-standards of the trait of resistance to Fusarium pathogens, which will contribute to reliable diagnostics of resistance in the collection material. A working soybean collection Glycine max (L.) Merr that contains 51 variety samples originating from 11 countries has been formed by the individual resistance to Fusarium and registered at the National Center for Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine. The collection is recommended for the use in breeding programs to create pathogen-resistant varieties.
