In silage-concentrate diets energy value of starch and protein of silage grain is overestimated, because it does not meet energy demands for the growth of rumen microorganisms. It is explained by high acidity of silage grain. Along with this, silage grain, which gets into small intestine, also has a low level of fermentation that is explained by a smaller contact area with enzymes as compared with fine-grinded dry and canned grain.
